Matomani was founded by Wendy Vesela-Ntimbani, who started the business out of a deep connection to her heritage and childhood experiences growing up in Limpopo, where indigenous protein were a traditional and nutritious food. She recognized the potential to transform this indigenous resource into a sustainable, modern food business while preserving cultural knowledge and promoting food security.
Matomani currently employs 11 staff members, mostly young people who were previously unemployed, providing them with skills, work experience, and a source of stable income.
Beyond direct employment, the company actively supports community trading, working with rural communities and local suppliers to create jobs and stimulate income generation within surrounding rural communities. Through this model, Matomani not only builds a business but also contributes to economic empowerment, livelihoods, and sustainable community development.
